My skincare routine

Over the past year, my skincare routine has changed so much and I can’t believe that I’ve finally found products that work well with my skin and work well together!

If you’re interested in finding out how I take care of my skin daily, read on!

So for starters a little background info on my skin; I have pretty normal, oily-combination skin, but with using these skincare products I’m finding it’s definitely more normal. If you’d had asked me a year ago what skin type I had, I’d tell you ‘OILY!’ but really, with finding the right products for me, I learned that my skin was simply dehydrated and produced oil to compensate for it.

I’m still prone to breakouts but with great cleansing products i’ve found that texture and breakouts have minimised!

For the purpose of this routine morning 1 and 2 will be mentioned and evening 1 and 2, as I use different products on alternate days.

Morning 1 routine:

Cleanse: The first thing I do every morning before I start the day is to cleanse my face with the Arcona White Tea Purifying CleanserThis cleanser is amazing for anyone who’ has a dry-normal skin type. The best thing about this cleanser is that not only does it smell AMAZING, but it cleans the skin well without stripping it (ie making it feel tight). I cleanse my face using the Clarisonic Mia 2 device. I won’t talk too long about this device, because I have a review on it here to check out for more info. Through every cleanse I’ve used in the past 2 years I’ve always used my Clarisonic with it both morning and evening. The Clarisonic is amazing and I highly recommend it, no matter what your skin type is, as there are multiple brush heads to use for every concern.

Serum: For serum, I tend to change it up since my skin doesn’t get too affected by a change in serum. I always like to use a brightening serum because really, who doesn’t love radiance? haha. Currently I’m using the Murad Advanced Active Radiance Serum. I’ll apply a 5 cent piece amount to dry skin after cleansing.

Moisturiser: Arcona Magic White Ice Hydrator is amazing for me as I’ve always hated the heavy feeling of creams and I don’t want anything that could clog my pores. I love wearing this under makeup as it’s so light and gets absorbed instantly, but still hydrates my skin so well! This is probably the product which I noticed changed the way my foundation and makeup sat on my face through the day. long story short- my makeup lasts alot longer on my face now!

Eye balm: So I never previously used any eye products on my eyes as it was never a concern for me personally. I feel lucky to not have much discolouration under the eyes (for now) but recently I had really irritated eyes and me being me, I would rub them ruthlessly. One morning I woke up to crepe-y undereyes and I decided I’d use the Algenist complete eye renewal balm to hydrate my undereyes. I love the texture as it’s not heavy or sticky and works well at hydrating the under eye area. As for the price, I know it’s got a pretty insane price tag but.. It helps! hahah

Spot treatment: For the occasional spot or bump I’ll apply some Khiels Acne Blemish Control Daily Skin-Clearing Treatment (that was a mouthful). This is lightweight, and contains salicylic acid in it to help clear the breakout. It works nicely without drying the skin out. I love the product design as it has a little nozzle so you don’t apply too much product.

Evening 1 routine:

Makeup Remover: I like to remove my face makeup with the Garnier Micellar Water. This product is awesome at removing all the day’s makeup and doesn’t irritate or leave a greasy feeling on the skin afterwards.

Cleanse: Evening cleansing has become something I look forward to ever since I began using the Murad AHA BHA Exfoliating CleanserThis stuff is amazing as cleansing the day’s dirt and oils away and even though it has AHA and BHA’s in it, it is gentle enough for me to use every night (how often you use this cleanser will depend on your skin!). I love how this cleanser also has a fine grainy texture which helps to buff away any excess dirt and impurities. Again, I’ll use this with my Clarisonic device.

Tone/ Treatment: Every alternate evening I’ll use the Alpha-H liquid GoldBecause this product has Glycolic in it, I will use this every second night to help with brightening, and repair, as well as surface refining of the skin. Being taught about the benefits of a process called ‘controlled trauma’ through the Alpha-H skincare educational trainer I’ve learned that glycolic can benefit the skin in various ways; including the boost of collagen in the skin and pigmentation. To get the full benefit of this product I won’t use any other products on my skin in the evenings when using this treatment. Just be careful when first using this as glycolic may be strong on some sensitive skins.

Morning 2:

Cleanse: The morning after using Liquid Gold I like to use the Tarte Frxxtion Stick Exfoliating cleanser stick to help gently buff away the excess debris that the Glycolic treated the night before. After a light cleanse with the tarte stick I’ll then do my usual cleanse with the Arcona White tea Purifying Cleanser and my Clarisonic.

Serum: Same as morning 1 Serum and treatment steps.

Evening 2:

Same serum-treatment steps as morning 1.

Additional extra’s:

Occasionally I’ll choose to use a mask to treat or brighten if I have an event or find that my skin needs a little pick-me-up.

My favourite masks to go for are the Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Mask and the Murad Intensive C radiance Peel.

So what products are your go-to skincare products?

Do you use or like any of the same skincare products as me?
